Nobody eats alone here.
After the gatherings, chairs get pulled around a table and food appears — usually from four different countries at once. It is where the words multicultural and open church stop being a claim and turn into somebody handing you a plate.
It is also where the practical help happens: a form nobody can read, a first winter in Germany, a week where the money did not reach the end of it. You do not have to ask loudly.

Welcome at the door
Be the first face. Open the door, learn a name, walk someone to a seat so they never stand in a room alone.

Play, sing, or run the desk. If you can hold a rhythm or push a fader, the Wednesday band has a gap for you.

Look after the little ones for ninety minutes so their parents can actually be present in the room.
